10 killed, 31 injured in collision between bus, pick-up vehicle in Madhya Pradesh

At least 10 people, including a child, were killed and another 31 were injured in a head-on collision between a pick-up vehicle and a bus, which was returning from a public function attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, in the state’s Chhindwara district on Thursday evening, according to officials.

CM Yadav expressed grief over the mishap and declared a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 1 lakh for those who were injured. Treatment of all injured persons would be provided free of cost, he announced.

The incident took place near Simaria on Nagpur Road, Superintendent of Police Ajay Pandey informed. “Six men, three women and a child were killed in the accident,” he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

There were more than 40 passengers in the bus at the time of the incident, SHO Ashish Kumar said.

3-4 INJURED IN CRITICAL STATE

The death toll consists of eight passengers of the bus and the driver and cleaner of the pick-up vehicle, per Chhindwara Collector Harendra Narayan. The official further said that 3–4 people among the 31 injured are in a critical state.

“One of them has been rushed to a hospital in Nagpur in neighbouring Maharashtra for advanced treatment,” Narayan said.

The injured were rushed to the district hospital and other medical facilities in nearby areas, officials said.

As many as 105 projects were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid for several other projects by CM Yadav at the function where the bus was returning from. The event took place at the police ground in Chhindwara city.

Sharing a condolence message on X, CM Yadav said, “I pray to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed souls and wish speedy recovery to the injured.”

Officials have been directed to dispatch teams of doctors from Jabalpur to Chhindwara and Nagpur, he said in the post. The CM also directed Chhindwara’s guardian minister, Rakesh Singh, to reach the district.
