A six-year-old girl was brutally assaulted in Gujarat’s Rajkot after an attempted sexual assault, triggering widespread outrage and a large-scale police manhunt that ended with the arrest of a 35-year-old farm labourer.
The incident took place in Atkot, where a family from Dahod district had been working as agricultural labourers. Police said the child was playing near the fields on December 4 while her parents worked close by. An unidentified man allegedly abducted her and attempted to rape her.
When the child screamed, the attacker allegedly thrust a metal rod into her private parts, causing severe bleeding, before fleeing the spot.
The family began searching for her and discovered her lying injured near the fields. She was rushed to Rajkot’s Jannah Hospital. According to hospital sources, her condition is currently stable, and she is likely to be discharged in the next two to three days.
100 SUSPECTS QUESTIONED; CHILD IDENTIFIES ATTACKER
Rajkot Rural Superintendent of Police Vijaysinh Gurjar said the police launched an intensive search, forming nearly 10 teams and questioning close to 100 suspects. As part of the identification process, officers presented about 10 individuals before the child in the presence of child experts.
The girl identified Ramsingh Terasingh Dadwejar, a farmworker from Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district, as the assailant. Gurjar confirmed that Dadwejar, who is married and has three children, was arrested from a field adjacent to the crime scene.
POLICE RULE OUT OTHERS’ INVOLVEMENT
The SP said the investigation has not indicated the involvement of any additional suspects. “Only one accused is involved in this incident. He has been arrested from the adjoining field,” Gurjar said.
Police continue to monitor the child’s recovery while proceeding with further legal action against the accused.
