In a press briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed grave concern over the ‘2,900 incidents of violence against minorities’ in Bangladesh documented by independent sources during the interim government’s tenure. Jaiswal condemned the recent killing of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh and emphasized that these acts cannot be dismissed as ‘political violence’. The briefing also addressed the death of Indian national Prashant Sreekumar in Canada due to alleged medical negligence, with Jaiswal stating, ‘We are in touch with local authorities as to what the circumstances… that led to the death’. Additionally, the MEA commented on the return of Tariq Rehman to Bangladesh and the upcoming elections in Myanmar. India Today’s Foreign Affairs Editor Geeta Mohan provided further analysis on the diplomatic engagement.
