Maharashtra’s deputy CM, Ajit Pawar and four others died in a heartwrenching aircrash. The aircraft carrying them crashed in the air, causing the demise of Ajit Pawar, who was 66. The incident took place near Baramati as the plane took off from Mumbai. Ajit Pawar was travelling to Baramati to address public meetings as part of his campaign, but destiny had other plans.

After the news reached the Pawar family, Ajit Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, rushed to Baramati. She was left heartbroken when she was spotted at Baramati. She broke down, remembering her late husband, Ajit Pawar, who left the home in the morning with the hope of returning within a few days after attending a party meeting. She was dressed up in a golden-hued saree.

Ajit Pawar’s death in an air crash

On January 28, 2026, Ajit Pawar was in a VSR-operated Bombardier Learjet 45 (VTSSK), travelling to Baramati. The crash took place at 8:45 a.m. at the Baramati Airport runway threshold during the landing. As per initial reports from the DGCA confirmed that everyone on board died in the scary crash. According to the Directorate’s statement:

“Ajit Pawar, Deputy CM of Maharashtra, was onboard along with 2 more personnel (1 PSO and 1 attendant) and 2 crew (PIC+FO) members in the charter plane. As per initial information, no person on board has survived the crash.”

Those who were present at the Baramati airport shared the harrowing crash moments as the aircraft was about to land, but instead it crashed and exploded. One eyewitness said the aircraft hit the ground and immediately erupted into flames, followed by multiple explosions. The eyewitness was quoted as saying:

“I saw it with my eyes. This is really painful. When the aircraft descended, it seemed it would crash, and it did crash. It then exploded. There was a massive explosion.”

Another person at the scene shared that a massive fire erupted from the aircraft. The person added that no one could help the pilot or the people inside the aircraft. The witness was quoted as saying:

“We rushed here and saw that the aircraft was on fire. There were four to five explosions in the aircraft again. More people came here, and they tried to pull the people out. But since this was a huge fire, people could not help.”

Ajit Pawar’s last note on X moments before crash

After the heartbreaking news of Ajit Pawar’s demise surfaced, a post from X surfaced, which is believed to be his final message on the social media handle. The post was shared at 8:57 a.m. It was a tribute to freedom fighter Lala Rajput Rai on his birth anniversary. Ajit Pawar remembered the revered ‘Punjab Kesari’, saluting his sacrifice and celebrating his enduring legacy, Swaraj and India’s freedom movement. It could be read as:

“On this, his birth anniversary, humble salutations to the great freedom fighter, proclaimer of Swaraj, and ‘Punjab Kesari’ Lala Lajpat Rai Ji, who dedicated his all to the nation’s independence! His patriotism shall forever continue to inspire us.”
