Panic gripped a toll plaza on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Thursday evening after occupants of a black Scorpio SUV allegedly opened fire during a dispute over toll payment. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the toll booth.
According to officials, the incident took place at the Ghamdauj toll barrier around 8.30 pm, when a black Scorpio without a number plate arrived at the plaza. The occupants of the vehicle reportedly attempted to pass through the toll without paying the required fee and got into an argument with toll staff.
When toll employees objected and stopped the vehicle, the occupants of the Scorpio allegedly fired two rounds in the air, with bullets hitting a red barricade at the toll plaza. The firing created panic in the area before the suspects fled the spot.
Following the incident, Gurugram police rushed to the scene and took possession of CCTV footage from the toll plaza. An investigation has been launched to identify the accused and trace the vehicle.
Arif, a toll employee posted at the site, said the Scorpio had stopped at the barrier and its occupants refused to pay the toll tax. “When we protested, the men sitting in the Scorpio started firing,” he said.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Police said further action would be taken based on the CCTV footage and statements of eyewitnesses.
