What is Tiramisu
Tiramisu (Italian: tiramisù from tirami su, “pick me up” or “cheer me up”) is a coffee-flavoured Italian dessert.
It is made of ladyfingers (savoiardi) dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggs, sugar, and mascarpone cheese, flavoured with cocoa. The recipe has been adapted into many varieties of cakes and other desserts.
Tiramisu which literally means Pick Me Up, One of the famous Italian dessert. If you taste it once, I am sure you will pick it up wherever you get a chance too. It is that good. Many of us think that making this at home is quite complicated, but it is not.

If you cannot find savoiardi biscuits in your place, make your own easily. Few years back I even shared Italian Ladyfinger Biscuits Recipe on the blog. But it is easily sourceable in Amazon or any only shops.
Over the years of making so many Tiramisu cake, here are my tips and tricks. Make sure to brew your black coffee strong. You can even use two to three shots of espresso and then dilute in water. The stronger the coffee the more flavour it gives the end product.
While whipping the cream, make sure to whip it thick so it holds the cake better. Once the cake is assembled, give enough time to set in fridge. I recommend making this a day in advance so it sets in fridge for one full which give best result.

Ingredients
- Lady finger biscuits (savoiardi) – these are traditionally used in tiramisu cake. But you can use sponge cakes too. I have seen recipes using biscuits too.
- Mascarpone cheese – best cheese to use in tiramisu, because it has some texture and taste to the cake.
- Sugar – powder granulated sugar till fine which blends evenly with the cream mixture making it super light and creamy. You can use icing sugar too.
- Vanilla – flavours the cream and adds aroma.
- Cream – use cold whipping cream to lighten the mixture and provide volume to the cream.
- Coffee – use strong brewed coffee to dunk lady finger biscuits.
- Nutella – you can use melted chocolate or nutella to mix with the cream and topping.

Step by Step Pictures
1)Start by making the cream filling for tiramisu. I am using my homemade mascarpone cheese for this recipe. Take mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla extract in a bowl.

2)Use an electric beater to whip this till creamy and thick.

3)Pour in some heavy whipping cream. Make sure the cream is cold.

4)Add in nutella. You can use melted and cooled semi sweet or dark chocolate in this too.

5)Now whip this again for 2 to 3 minutes till thick.

5)take your ladyfinger biscuits.

6)Also take cold brewed coffee in another bowl. Dunk the biscuits in the coffee. Don’t dunk it too long else the biscuits may get soggy and fall apart.

7)Arrange it in a lined loaf pan. Since I want to lift the tiramisu as whole, I lined with foil. You don’t have to line the pan if you don’t want to lift the cake as whole.
Arrange the biscuits as a even tight layer.

8)Spread the whipped cream on top of the dunked biscuits.

9)Now drizzle over some nutella. This enhances the taste and makes it super chocoalty.

10)Repeat the layering process. Place the dunked lady finger biscuits on top of nutella.

11)Spread with cream, then nutella. I repeated this one more time. The top layer should be cream.

12)Now drizzle nutella all over the cream layer. Place the cake into the fridge overnight.

13)just before serving, dust with cocoa powder generously. Slice and serve.

Expert Tips
- Use an electric beater to whip the cream mixture. it makes it light and airy.
- Make sure the coffee used is strong and cold. Also dunk the biscuits lightly so it doesn’t disintegrate.
- Be generous with the cream and nutella which adds so much taste.
- You can make as much layer as possible, it is best to have atleast 3 layers of biscuits.
- Make sure to set the cake in fridge for one full day for best result.
