The Kozhikode sessions court on Monday deferred its order on the bail plea moved by Shimjitha Musthafa, the accused in abetting the unnatural death of Govindapuram native U. Deepak, to Tuesday. The order was deferred as the judge was on leave.

Shimjitha’s bail application plea had earlier been rejected by the Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court approving the contention of the prosecution that it could adversely affect the ongoing probe. Later, she was approaching the Sessions court.

In the absence of a latest police investigation report, the sessions court had earlier also deferred the bail petition of the suspect. Police sources said the report was submitted recently in the court to continue with further proceedings.

It was on January 18 that Deepak was found dead at his house near Govindapuram in Kozhikode city after a video featuring him was widely circulated on social media. According to police sources, the video alleging sexual harassment was shot by the suspect during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
