A major controversy has erupted at the India AI Impact Summit after Galgotias University was accused of presenting a Chinese-made robo-dog as its own indigenous innovation. The Noida-based institution faced intense social media backlash and political criticism, with Rahul Gandhi labeling the summit a ‘disorganized PR spectacle’. Following the row, the government ordered the university to vacate its pavilion immediately, leading to the disconnection of its electricity supply. A university representative clarified that they never claimed to have manufactured the dog, stating, ‘This has been procured, and this is what We, the students, would develop in collaboration with the centres of excellence’. Despite the clarification, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued a stern warning that exhibitors must only display their own developments. The university has since vacated the premises, and the space has been converted into a resting area for visitors, marking a significant embarrassment for the institution amidst India’s push for ‘Make in India’ technology.
