The Delhi government is likely to introduce a new liquor policy within the next month, with the draft of the policy said to be almost ready, sources indicated on Friday.
According to officials familiar with the development, the proposal includes making premium liquor brands available across all retail liquor stores in the national capital.
Currently, under the existing policy, such brands are restricted, leading to revenue losses for the government. The new plan is expected to bring Delhi’s pricing and availability at par with other parts of the NCR.
Sources also said discussions were held on reducing the minimum legal drinking age for beer. However, no consensus has been reached on this proposal yet.
The move to allow premium brands across all outlets is aimed at boosting government revenue while providing consumers with more options. Final details of the policy are expected to be unveiled soon.
