Alakh Pandey fans had been eagerly anticipating the Hindi web series, Hello Bachhon. Well, for those unaware, the biographical drama capturing the journey of the Physics Wallah founder has already made its digital debut on the OTT giant, Netflix, on March 6, 2026. Directed by Pratish Mehta, in the series, the role of Alakh Pandey is played by actor, Vineet Kumar Singh, who you might recognise from the Anurag Kashyap movies, Gangs of Wasseypur and Mukkabaaz.
It is worth noting that since Hello Bachhon was released on Netflix, fans have been eager to learn more about Alakh Pandey, from whom the series draws most of its inspiration. Some fans have even begun to wonder how much of the story shown in Hello Bachhon is fact and how much is fiction. If you are one of those people, here’s everything we know about Alakh Pandey and his journey in real life.
Who is Alakh Pandey, the man who inspired Hello Bachhon?

Alakh Pandey was born in Allahabad, currently known as Prayagraj, to a middle-class family. While growing up, Alakh dreamt of becoming an engineer, similar to the millions of students in India. To follow his dream, he began studying Mechanical Engineering in college; however, owing to financial issues, Alakh was soon forced to leave. This is when he started giving small coaching classes in Physics.

Apparently, while teaching, Alakh barely relied on notes or lectures, as most teachers do. What set his coaching classes apart was his energetic and chatty persona. At times, this also added a theatrical flair to his classes, making them feel truly refreshing. Soon, Alakh’s side job began to take over as his primary profession. As some fans might already be aware, the small classrooms Alakh taught would go on to become a major revolution in education.
Alakh Pandey’s YouTube channel, Physics Wallah, became the real turning point in his journey

After his modest beginnings with small coaching classes, things took a real turn when Alakh Pandey decided to upload his Physics lectures online. In order to do this, he started a YouTube channel under the name of Physics Wallah in 2016. It is worth noting that back then, India’s online education landscape was still developing, and the country’s ed-tech revolution was still far off.

The videos Alakh shared on his YouTube channel at the time were wildly different from the online coaching classes available at the time. He kept his videos casual, full of humour, and as entertaining as possible. In this way, his videos became a huge help to students in grasping all the concepts in a much easier, lucid manner.

Alakh Pandey’s greeting before starting every video, “Hello Bachhon!”, became synonymous with his YouTube channel and something by which students began to recognise him. Starting out small, the channel started gaining an enormous following. Many JEE and NEET aspirants started viewing and sharing his videos as they provided online lectures free of cost. Many believe that Alakh didn’t have to do too much to promote his channel and that it grew organically.
Alakh Pandey’s entry into the ed-tech space

As his channel started drawing in a massive audience, Alakh Pandey expanded the project beyond YouTube. In 2020, he launched the Physics Wallah app, along with an entire online learning platform. By doing so, Alakh wanted to provide high-quality coaching to students at a fraction of the cost it would normally cost. Well, it did not take long for this model to gain traction.

It was particularly a hit among those Indian students who belonged to small towns. In fact, many who couldn’t afford the rather expensive options in Kota, which is considered the national hub of engineering, flocked to the Physics Wallah app. From lectures, live classes, and practice materials to doubt-solving sessions, the online platform provided everything necessary for competitive exams.
Alakh Pandey’s Physics Wallah became the most talked-about ed-tech startup in India

Physics Wallah’s growth was so extraordinary that after some time, it also caught international attention. If reports are to be believed, in 2022, Physics Wallah became a profitable ed-tech company and even achieved unicorn status after raising an astronomical amount in investment. Instead of focusing on marketing and promotions, Physics Wallah relied on the connection that Alakh Pandey had built over the years with his students to establish its brand.
How much of Hello Bachhon, inspired by Alakh Pandey’s journey, is fact, and how much is fiction?

With Alakh Pandey serving as the inspiration for Hello Bachhon, the series features a passionate Physics teacher portrayed by Vineet Kumar Singh, who revolutionises online learning. Not only this, but similar to Alakh, he also strives to make affordable, high-quality education accessible to all students in India. Alakh’s iconic catchphrase, “Hello Bachhon” (Hello Kids), is kept the same for Vineet’s character.

However, noting how highly curated the series is, some reviews online have claimed that Hello Bachhon feels like a “5-episode-long corporate video”. Furthermore, according to them, the series focuses too much on romanticising Alakh’s journey and his successes, failing to accurately capture corporate challenges and often downplaying them.

Do you think Hello Bachhon did a great job at accurately portraying Alakh Pandey’s journey? Let us know.
