Meet Live Action 'Scooby-Doo' Cast: Netflix Announces The New Daphne, Velma, Fred And Shaggy

Scooby-Doo is an American media franchise owned by Warner Bros. Entertainment. The show was created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, and it became a pastime for most kids in the 1990s and the early 2000s. However, fans’ love for the show has not diminished over the years, leading the makers to give it another go. Yes! The makers will now bring our beloved show back to TV screens in live action on Netflix.

While fans have been over the moon about the upcoming show, the intrigue around who will play whom in Scooby-Doo has been making waves. Fans have created their own allegedly perfect cast, and now the makers have finally revealed who will essay the roles of our beloved characters, ‘Fred Jones’, ‘Daphne Blake’, ‘Velma Dinkley’ and ‘Shaggy Rogers’. So, without any further ado, let’s take a quick look at the cast list.

Meet the new generation of Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo has been a core memory for generations of kids. And now, it will soon be back, becoming part of the next generation. So, as the show enters a new chapter, let us take a look at who will essay the four main roles in its new live-action series. According to Netflix, the final four for Scooby-Doo have been picked after much consideration.

The Netflix show will star McKenna Grace as ‘Daphne Blake’, the rich heiress. ‘Daphne’ is depicted as a beautiful, enthusiastic, and eager-to-help character, though she is occasionally clumsy and prone to getting into dangerous situations. Grace will be joining the cast after her stellar performances in the horror sequels, Scream 7 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. Known for her roles in Gifted and the Ghostbusters franchise, the actress will also appear in the Hunger Games sequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, later this year.

The next character on the list is ‘Velma Dinkley’, who will be essayed by Abby Ryder Fortson. Known for her baggy orange turtleneck sweater, a short red pleated skirt, knee-high socks and Jane shoes, she is often seen as the brains of the group. Abby will be joining the group after appearing in The Pitt. She rose to fame with her role in Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

As for the men in the show, Maxwell Jenkins will portray ‘Fred Jones’. The group’s leader, ‘Fred’, is generally a nice guy and an extremely handsome character. He is often seen building traps for the show’s villains. Maxwell will step into the character’s blue pants after appearing in the 2025 series, The Bondsman. He has appeared in a number of projects, including Arcadian, This Too Shall Pass and Dear Edward.

Last but definitely not least, we have Tanner Hagen as ‘Shaggy Rogers’. Often justifying his hunger by insisting that “being in a constant state of terror makes us constantly hungry!” ‘Shaggy’ is ‘Scooby-Doo’s’ bestfriend. The show will mark Tanner’s first big project. He was recently seen in The Pitt and will soon appear in the feature film The Man Who Changed The World.

What is the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo about?

The live-action series by Netflix is being described as a “modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.” According to Netflix, the show will follow the gang as they “first teamed up to crack the haunting case that started it all.” The long line of Scooby-Doo could be read as saying:

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.”

Additionally, Netflix revealed that the ‘brains’ of the team, ‘Velma’ and the handsome new kid, ‘Freddy’, will solve the craziest cases in the upcoming series. The OG show was well-known for its mysteries and laughter back in the day, and now it is all set to return, bringing some exciting episodes for fans. The statement by Netflix could be read as:

“Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
