Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner D. S. Ramesh presented the corporation’s first annual budget with a total outlay of ₹3,889.98 crore, prioritising connectivity, infrastructure, and public health.
The corporation has allocated ₹2.25 crore per ward, amounting to ₹112.50 crore in total, following demands by Bengaluru city MLAs for ₹5 crore per ward during a meeting held last week.

Among the key announcements, Mr. Ramesh said that municipal bonds worth ₹200 crore will be offered and the funds raised will be used for two separate infrastructure projects — a grade separator on Alpine Eco Road and a flyover connecting Varthur and Gunjur.
The budget largely focuses on public work aimed at improving last-mile connectivity and ensuring smoother traffic flow through the development of arterial and sub-arterial roads.
Mr. Ramesh said that the corporation is already in possession of 56,722.6 sqm of land for widening of various arterial and sub-arterial roads. The budget sets aside ₹70 crore for further land acquisition.
Further, an allocation of ₹112.5 crore has been made for the overall development and maintenance of roads and drains within the corporation’s jurisdiction.
Development plan for Outer Ring Road
The corporation reiterated the ₹450 crore redevelopment plan for the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Mr. Ramesh mentioned plans to build footpaths along the Namma Metro viaduct in collaboration with the Outer Ring Road Companies’ Association (ORRCA), that was announced in the State budget recently.
In addition, asphalting of the ORR service road from K.R. Puram to Iblur Junction has been taken up. Beyond this stretch, the ORR falls under the jurisdiction of the South corporation.
The corporation will undertake development of roads in areas around the ORR, primarily to enhance last-mile connectivity.
₹50 crore has been allocated for junction improvement, skywalks, and pedestrian-friendly initiatives on major roads. Additionally, the corporation plans to develop 100 km of footpaths.
₹300 crore has been set aside for waste management, including disposal, collection, and sanitation-related work.
The corporation will take up beautification of flyovers and underpasses through public-private partnerships.
Out of 58 identified flood-prone areas, 38 have already been addressed, and funds have been allocated to mitigate flooding in the remaining locations.
₹28 crore has been allocated for the maintenance of 45 lakes within its jurisdiction, while ₹25 crore has been earmarked for the development of four lakes.
The corporation has earmarked ₹20 crore for the comprehensive development of key public spaces, and the preparation of a climate action plan.
