Alta Stella, a newly opened restobar in Andheri co-owned by Sanjay Dutt, has found itself at the centre of a social media storm. The outlet, located on Veera Desai Road, recently faced intense criticism for serving a cocktail that contained a live fish. After a public outcry over animal cruelty concerns, the management has officially withdrawn the drink from its menu. The restobar, which opened on March 11, is a joint venture between Sanjay Dutt and Abhimanyu Jakhar, a Haryana-based entrepreneur in the shipping and hospitality sectors. The controversy began when a video went viral on Tuesday, showing a blue Betta fighter fish swimming inside a glass used to serve a cocktail.
The visuals quickly sparked anger across various social media platforms. Users described the experiment as inhumane” and cruel, criticizing the bar for prioritizing “Instagrammable” aesthetics over the welfare of a living creature. One social media post read, “A living breathing fish trapped in a glass for aesthetics. This is not creativity. This is cruelty made Instagrammable.. promoting and encouraging cruelty? ‘Spot the Fish’, seriously?”
