Karol G reveals Sofia Vergara convinced her to appear on the Playboy cover

A while ago, People revealed that Karol G will be seen on the cover of Playboy magazine’s upcoming spring issue. This will be right ahead of her headlining performance at Coachella. In the interview with the publication, the 35-year-old singer opened up about how it was none other than her fellow Colombian star, Sofia Vergara, who convinced her to appear on the cover of the magazine and massively helped her step out of her comfort zone. Karol revealed that “the only person I asked if I should do it or not was Sofia Vergara. She recalled calling the actress and going, “If you tell me not to do it, I won’t.” In response to this, Sofia said:

“Mijita, with that body? When you get to this age, you tell yourself, ‘F—, why didn’t I pose that one time? I should have posed more with a thong!'”

For those unaware, Karol has previously worked with Sofia, 53, on the Netflix show, Griselda. The story of the show centred around a Colombian businesswoman named ‘Griselda Blanco.’

Karol G opens up about her upcoming headlining performance at Coachella

In the same interview with People, the Latina Forever singer also spoke about her upcoming headlining performance at Coachella. For the unversed, with her taking the stage at the festival on April 12, 2026, she won’t just be making a hit-filled set. In fact, she will be making history as the first Latina to headline Coachella. On top of it being a major career milestone in Karol’s career, it will also be a huge step for Latin music in general, with Coachella being one of the world’s most influential stages. Recalling the time she received the call to headline at the festival, Karol said:

“When I received the call, I felt like a huge weight fell on me. They called me and told me — in Spanish — that I was going to be the first Latina to close the festival. I feel like it’s a show for my community, for the world, but it’s a show that’s very much for me.”

Though Karol’s upcoming performance at Coachella will be her first time headlining, she had actually made her festival debut a few years ago, in 2022. At the time, she paid tribute to her Colombian roots with a special medley. Fans rejoiced as she also brought out her longtime friend, J Balvin, to perform his smash hit, Mi Gente. It is worth noting that Karol G’s upcoming performance at Coachella will follow the release of her fifth studio album, Tropicoqueta, which was released in June 2025. The album largely symbolised the Provenza singer’s reclaiming of herself.
