A constable in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district has sparked controversy after releasing a video on social media alleging harassment and denial of medical leave despite suffering from kidney stones.
In the video, constable Roop Singh claimed that he has been unwell and diagnosed with kidney stones, but was not granted leave for treatment. He alleged that he was instead made to perform domestic chores, including washing utensils, at the official residence of Morena Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh.
Singh further alleged that even after informing senior officials about his medical condition and requesting 15 days’ leave for treatment, his application was rejected. He expressed distress in the video, questioning whether he had any recourse within the police department and stating that he continued to work despite his illness.
The video quickly went viral, triggering concern within the Morena police department.
However, police officials have denied the allegations. Reserve Inspector Ravikant Shukla stated that the claims are baseless and alleged that the constable had been absent from duty for two days. He suggested that the video may have been recorded under the influence of alcohol and said a medical examination has been conducted, with the report awaited.
Shukla further said that the constable had later submitted a written statement admitting he was intoxicated at the time of recording the video. He also noted that due process for applying for leave had not been followed, adding that medical leave requires proper documentation and approval through official channels.
While officials maintain that procedures were not followed, the video has drawn attention to the constable’s condition and raised questions about workplace treatment and access to medical leave within the force.
