A political storm has erupted in Assam over Congress leader Bidu Bhushan Das singing ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’, the Bangladeshi national anthem, at a party event in Karimganj. The BJP has stated that ‘this is Congress party’s love for the infiltrator.’ The incident, which occurred at a Congress Seva Dal meeting, was captured on video and went viral, prompting sharp condemnation from the BJP. Assam Minister Krishnendu Paul called the incident bizarre and said he would ask the police to investigate. The Congress party has defended its leader, stating he was singing a Rabindra Sangeet and that the BJP is attempting to politicise the issue for political gain. The controversy is amplified by the location, a border district in Assam where infiltration is a sensitive political issue.
