A four-year-old double murder case in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, concluded with a court sentencing a man, his father, and brother to death for killing his wife and her cousin with a sharp-edged weapon.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the three convicts — the husband, his father, and his brother.
The case dates back to 2022. In Agra’s Etmadpur area, the husband, along with his family members, murdered his wife and her cousin over suspicions of an illicit relationship.
According to reports, the cousin, 31-year-old Shivam Sisodia, lived behind the house of the accused’s relatives.
The accused, Gaurav, was married to Pooja, a resident of Khidiya village in the Saiyan area. Due to family ties, Shivam frequently visited their home.
The family suspected that Pooja and Shivam were close. On the afternoon of May 27, 2022, Shivam had gone to meet Pooja at her house, where the family allegedly caught them together. They were then dragged out of the house into the street.
It is alleged that Gaurav, along with his father Madan and brother Abhishek, chased and beat Pooja and Shivam with sticks. When the two fell to the ground, their throats were slit with a farsa.
Reports say that Gaurav’s brother attacked Shivam 22 times within a minute.
After the incident, Pooja’s body was found at the doorstep of the house, while Shivam’s body lay in the street.
Following the murders, Gaurav reportedly sat near his wife’s body and cried, while his father and brother went to the Etmad-ud-Daula police station and surrendered.
Police recovered the farsa used in the crime and a blood-stained stick from a drain at the scene.
A total of 14 witnesses were presented in court. Key evidence included the testimony of Shivam’s brother Abhishek and CCTV footage of the incident.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohit Pal said over the phone that the court found Madan, Gaurav, and Abhishek guilty of the killings and sentenced them to death.
After hearing both sides, the court convicted Gaurav, his father Madan, and his brother Abhishek, awarding them the death penalty along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh each. Due to lack of evidence, the accused’s mother was acquitted.
Even after the verdict, the three convicts showed no visible emotion. While leaving the court premises, they said they would challenge the decision in the High Court and expressed faith in the justice system.
