All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) general secretary Mariam Dhawale on Monday said there is a growing awareness among women across the country that the policies of the BJP-led Central government are anti-people and detrimental to women’s rights.

Addressing a press conference at RTC Kalyana Mandapam here, she expressed serious concern over the situation in Manipur, alleging that hatred continues to be fuelled among communities to enable the handing over of natural resources to corporate interests. She alleged that not a single person has been punished for incidents of violence and sexual assaults against women in the State and said that even after the change of Chief Minister under pressure, no concrete steps have been taken to restore peace.

Mariam Dhawale said that the 14th AIDWA National Conference held detailed discussions on national and international political developments. The AIDWA general secretary also criticised the introduction of direct cash transfers in place of ration supplies in Puducherry, stating that the move was affecting food security. She demanded the immediate withdrawal of the policy and restoration of ration distribution. She thanked various people’s organisations for their support in ensuring the success of the AIDWA general assembly.

Speaking on the occasion, senior AIDWA leader P.K. Sreemathi said resolutions were passed opposing imperialism and condemning attacks by US President Donald Trump, while also expressing solidarity with Palestine and Venezuela.
