Aircraft manufacturer Bombardier on Wednesday said it was deeply saddened by the fatal crash of a Learjet 45 in Maharashtra’s Baramati and would cooperate fully with investigators, while declining to comment on the possible cause until the probe is completed.
Responding to queries from India Today, Bombardier said, “I want to start by saying that we, at Bombardier, are deeply saddened by this tragic event and extend our sincerest sympathies to all those affected.”
The company said it would refrain from speculation while investigations are underway. “We cannot comment on the potential cause of this accident until the investigation is complete,” Bombardier said, adding that it would “support investigation authorities, including with any recommendations if needed.”
The Bombardier Learjet 45 crashed on Wednesday morning with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others on board. All five occupants were killed in the incident, sending shockwaves across the country.
A preliminary probe has found that the aircraft was airworthy and did not suffer from any technical or mechanical issues prior to the crash. The jet, registered as VT-SSK and operated by VSR Ventures Pvt. Ltd., held a valid Airworthiness Review Certificate issued on September 10, 2025, and was certified to fly until September 14, 2026.
Investigators said the crew was fully qualified and medically fit. Pilot-in-command Sumit Kapur held an Airline Transport Pilot Licence and had logged over 15,000 flight hours. Co-pilot Sambhavi Pathak had approximately 1,500 hours of flying experience.
Both pilots had completed their latest proficiency checks and medical examinations in 2025, which remain valid through 2026, the report said.
While the preliminary findings have ruled out immediate technical faults, authorities said the investigation is continuing to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly crash.
