NEW DELHI: Andrei Svechnikov‘s hat trick and Jesper Fast‘s two goals powered the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night. Svechnikov opened the scoring just 1:35 into the first period with his fourth goal of the season. He broke a tie with 6:09 left in the third and completed the hat trick with 18.9 seconds remaining in the game.
Sebastian Aho contributed four assists for the Hurricanes, while Brent Burns added three assists.The victory came on the heels of Carolina’s 5-2 win against the Nashville Predators on Wednesday.

Antti Raanta, returning to NHL action for the first time since December 15, made 18 saves. The 34-year-old goaltender, who completed an AHL assignment after being waived, served as the backup in the previous game against the Nashville Predators.
For the Canadiens, Mitchell Stephens, Mike Matheson, and Josh Anderson found the back of the net. Cayden Primeau, son of former Hurricanes captain Keith Primeau, made 27 saves in his first game against Carolina. The Canadiens, returning from a five-day holiday break, couldn’t overcome the Hurricanes’ offensive onslaught.
The victory marks Carolina’s second consecutive win, maintaining their strong form in the Eastern Conference.
