A political war has erupted over the definition of hills in the Aravalli region. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav defends the government’s stance, stating that the ‘100 meters’ height requirement is a scientific management plan and that the government is ‘taking ecology and economy side by side’. He dismisses the opposition’s claims as a misinformation campaign, asserting that the Green Wall projects have been appreciated. Countering this, Congress Leader Sachin Pilot terms the move a ‘monumental mistake’, warning that opening hills below 100 meters for mining will destroy the Aravalli heritage, which protects the northern belt’s environment and wildlife.
