The Bombay High Court on Monday granted bail to the Mumbai civic bus driver who was driving the vehicle that killed 9 people, damaged 22 vehicles and injured 37 people in Kurla on December 9, 2024.

The bench of Justice RM Joshi passed the order while hearing a bail plea filed by driver Sanjay More. More was represented by advocates Advait Shukla and Amandeep Singh Sra, who argued that he was an experienced driver and that the section of culpable homicide not amounting to murder should not have been invoked. They contended that even for argument’s sake, the lack of experience with just three days’ training on an electric bus, could at best amount to rash and negligent driving and would not attract the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. It was also submitted that More had been in custody for over a year and that the long list of witnesses presented by the prosecution meant the trial was unlikely to conclude anytime soon.

The Sessions court had earlier rejected More’s bail plea on the ground that the charges were serious.

The Sessions court had, in the meantime, framed charges against More on October 13, 2025, to which he pleaded not guilty. The court had also issued summons to witnesses in December last year, but the prosecution witnesses have been absent over the past two months.
