The police opened fire on murder accused Arun Kumar, 19, who allegedly attacked the police personnel in a bid to flee from arrest, at Bhadravati on Tuesday.
The police took the accused into custody. Since he suffered injuries to his right leg, he was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment, said Shivamogga SP G.K. Mithun Kumar.
An investigation revealed that the accused and his friends, on Monday night, reportedly attacked a 23-year-old man and killed him, following a fight over a cricket match they had played earlier that day. Arun also has five other cases previously registered against him.
The police have registered a case and arrested five people.
