Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, officially joins the Janata Dal (United) at the party headquarters in Patna, making his formal entry into Bihar politics. Nishant, who stayed outside of politics for a long period of time, made his debut in politics a few days after his father filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha.
The 50-year-old leader on Sunday formally joined the party by taking the party membership from Sanjay Jha, the party’s National Working President. His induction into JD(U) was marked by the presence of several other JD(U) bigshots, including Central Minister Lalan Singh and Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Chaudhary. Several other party workers were also present during his induction. Although his father was not present during the joining.
With Nishant’s official entry into JD(U) and politics, it is speculated that the party might go through a transitional change, with a special focus on youth-driven agendas. A major buzz has emerged in Bihar’s political circles in Bihar that Nishant Kumar might take charge of the state administration as the next Deputy Chief Minister. With Nitish Kumar going to the Rajya Sabha, there are speculations that JD(U) might witness a change in leadership also in the upcoming time.
Speaking to India Today, veteran JD(U) leader and the 10-time MLA from Bihar’s Harnaut assembly constituency, Hari Narayan Singh, said that a meeting was held among the party’s top brass, where the possibilities of Nishant becoming the Deputy Chief Minister were discussed. The meeting was spearheaded by Nitiish Kumar, and several senior leaders from the state agreed on the proposal.
“In the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister yesterday, it was unanimously decided that Nishant Kumar will become the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. All party MLAs and MPs are in agreement with the decision,” Singh told India Today.
