BHUBANESWAR: Amid speculation that he will contest for Lok Sabha from Sambalpur, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan attended a ‘Chasa’ community meeting in Deogarh on Saturday. Deogarh is part of Sambalpur parliamentary constituency.
Dharmendra belongs to Chasa, an OBC community. He attended two get together programmes at Tileibani- one organised by Chasa community and another by one other backward class community- and ate food with them.
When Deogarh was a parliamentary constituency, Dharmendra had won this Lok Sabha seat in 2004. Now Deogarh is under Sambalpur constituency after delimitation. He is visiting the district and meeting people several times.
“I have a very old relationship with the people of Deogarh. I have seen the place from very close quarters. I am here today because of the blessings of the Deogarh people. We will try to make this place developed,” said the Union minister.
He said the Centre has started survey work to connect Barkote of Deogarh district with the rail network. “As Deogarh people’s major livelihood is farming, our govt is trying to help the farmers for their welfare and increasing their income,” he added.
Dharmendra said Odisha is getting more benefits now. “The state had received Rs 3 lakh crore in the last 10 years of Congress govt, whereas it has received Rs 18 lakh during BJP govt led by Narendra Modi,” he added.
