‘Dunki’ box office collection day 16: The Shah Rukh Khan starrer becomes third biggest hit of all time after ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

2023 was undoubtedly Shah Rukh Khan‘s year and his three blockbuster films, ‘Pathaan‘, ‘Jawan‘ and ‘Dunki‘ are proof! In fact, all these three films have become three biggest hits of his career so far.
According to the film’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, director Rajkumar Hirani‘s movie has earned Rs 422.99 crore at the global box office. This means that it will surpass Chennai Express’ Rs 423 crore lifetime gross today, becoming the third-biggest hit of SRK’s career, following Jawan and Pathaan. Interestingly, each of these films was released in 2023.

Featuring Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal alongside, ‘Dunki’ is performing steadily at the box office. However, it falls short of matching the lifetime box office success of Rajkumar Hirani’s previous films. For instance, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer ‘Sanju’ grossed Rs 588 crore worldwide during its theatrical run in 2017, and Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’ (2014) achieved a total gross of Rs 769.89 crore.

Rajkumar Hirani on working with Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Dunki’ and the ‘debate’ around it’s box-office collections: ‘Paison se zyada film ke content ki honi chahiye’

Surpassing the Rs 500 crore mark at the global box office might pose a challenge for ‘Dunki,’ especially with the release of two new films this month — Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Merry Christmas’ (releasing on January 12) and Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Fighter’ (releasing on January 25). It’s noteworthy that the last Rajkumar Hirani film to earn under Rs 500 crore worldwide is ‘3 Idiots,’ which was released in 2009.

SRK, who made a remarkable comeback to the big screen with two of the highest-grossing films in the history of Hindi cinema — ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan,’ has not yet announced his next project. However, reports suggest that he will be making a prolonged cameo appearance in Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming film, which stars his daughter, Suhana Khan.
