This incident follows mild tremors that were felt in Delhi and the NCR on January 11, when a 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in Afghanistan. The epicenter of that quake was located 241 kilometers northeast of Kabul.
The tremors were also felt in neighboring Pakistan. Authorities in the affected areas are monitoring the situation closely and have not raised any alarm as of now.
Notably, this earthquake transpires a month after a 6.2-magnitude quake in China’s Gansu and nearby Qinghai provinces which claimed the lives of at least 131 people.
Gansu officials reported to The Global Times that more than 87,000 people were evacuated, nearly 15,000 houses collapsed, and an additional 207,000 were damaged in the aftermath of the earthquake, impacting 145,736 people.
This is a developing story.
