The European Commission has tightened inspections on arachidonic acid oil from China following contamination of the ingredient used in infant formula.

Notifications in the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and investigations by authorities in member states have identified cereulide in infant formula. Cereulide was found in arachidonic acid (ARA) oil, a raw material from a Chinese supplier.
