A 34-year-old woman from Kurnool town has been arrested for allegedly injecting a doctor with the blood of an HIV positive person, here on January 9. Three accomplices have also been been arrested.

According to Kurnool Deputy Superintendent of Police J. Babu Prasad, the main accused, Beechupally Boya Vasundhara alias Vedavati of Kurnool town, was a childhood friend of the victim’s husband. Their friendship ended after he married the victim.

Vasundhara, however, nursed a grudge against the victim and hatched a plan to harm her after a child was born to the couple. An M.Sc Nursing student, she approached K. Jyothi, a nurse at a private hospital in Adoni, seeking her help to execute the plan. She later managed to obtain the blood of an HIV infected person being treated at the Government General Hospital here.

The police said Vasundhara stalked the victim for nearly a year, observing her movements in preparation for committing the crime.

Around 2.30 p.m. on January 9, two persons on a two-wheeler deliberately knocked the victim down near Vinayaka Ghat on K-C Canal Road while she was heading home for lunch on her two-wheeler. Two women then approached her offering assistance. As they were helping the victim get into an autorickshaw, one of them pierced her hand with a syringe. When the victim raised an alarm, the duo fled.

The victim’s husband, who is also a doctor, later lodged a complaint with the III Town police, raising concern over the contents of the injection administered to his wife.

During the investigation, the police checked the CCTV camera footage and homed in on the accused. All four of the accused — Vasundhara, Jyothi and two others — were arresed, according to the police.

The GGH has ordered an internal inquiry to find out who had helped Vasundhara secure the HIV infected blood.

Tests are under way to ascertain the health of the victim.
