A woman was abducted late on Saturday from the Leopard Trail area in Gurugram, where the accused allegedly attempted to rape her inside his Scorpio. Acting on a prompt alert, Gurugram police rescued the woman within three hours and arrested the accused.
The incident took place on January 24, when the woman and her male friend went to the Leopard Trail area in the Aravallis after attending a party. Police said that while they were travelling in a Hyundai Aura around 1 am near Gairatpur Bas village, a black Scorpio blocked their vehicle.
According to the police complaint, the Scorpio driver argued with the man, snatched his mobile phone and assaulted him. During the altercation, the woman stepped out of the car and objected, following which the accused forcibly pushed her into his vehicle and fled.
The woman’s friend chased the Scorpio for some distance but lost sight of it and immediately alerted the police control room. Gurugram police and crime branch teams launched a search operation that continued for nearly three hours.
Early Sunday morning, the Scorpio was found damaged near a drain close to Sakatpur village. Police said the vehicle had apparently fallen into the drain while being driven at high speed. The accused, identified as Gaurav Rathi, was found partially undressed in the front seat, while the woman was recovered unconscious from the rear seat. She was later stated to be safe.
A case of kidnapping and attempted rape has been registered against the accused. Police said the Scorpio was taken from another local resident on the pretext of dropping friends near Vatika Chowk.
The vehicle owner claimed he was unaware of Rathi’s intentions. The police are questioning him further as part of the investigation.
