Scotland has seen a spike in infections with health officials investigating 17 outbreaks in 2024, according to recently released information.

There was an increase in the number of laboratory reports for multiple pathogens compared to 2023. These include Campylobacter, Cyclospora, Giardia, hepatitis A and E virus, norovirus, Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC), Shigella, Salmonella, and Yersinia. There was no change in Listeria infections.
