A special train has been arranged to get the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals players and support staff from Dharamshala to Delhi after the match on Thursday, May 7 was called off after multiple attacks from Pakistan in various parts of India.
The BCCI has arranged a Vande Bharat to get the players and support staff away from the city on priority. The nearest railway station is Una and the two sets of players, support staff and match officials are likely to take the train from there and head to Delhi.
The match was called off in the 11th over of the Punjab Kings batting when one of the floodlight towers in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium went off. The fans suspected it was a technical failure but then two more went off before the crowd was asked to leave the stadium. The IPL then announced that the match was cancelled on their official X account.
BCCI monitoring situation closely
The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, speaking to India Today, explained the decision to call off the match. Saikia also said that the BCCI are closely monitoring the situation and will make further decisions accordingly.
“The situation is not stable at the moment, and that is why we have cancelled today’s match — not just in Dharamsala, but also due to escalating tensions from the neighbouring country.
“The safety of players, spectators, and support staff is our top priority. We will do everything that is in the best interest of the nations involved.
