The legendary writer had been admitted to Lilavati Hospital after suffering a minor brain haemorrhage, which led to widespread concern among fans and members of the film industry.
Speaking at a book launch event in New Delhi, Javed Akhtar offered an encouraging update on his close friend’s condition.
According to Akhtar, Salim Khan’s health has improved significantly in recent days. He said the veteran writer is now able to sit up and converse, indicating steady progress in his recovery.

Salim Khan, now 90, is widely regarded as one of the most influential writers in Hindi cinema. Along with Javed Akhtar, he formed the iconic Salim–Javed duo, responsible for landmark films such as Sholay, Deewar, Zanjeer and Don. Their storytelling shaped the era of the “angry young man” in Bollywood and continues to influence filmmakers today.

Akhtar’s update has brought relief to fans and industry colleagues who have been closely following developments about Khan’s health. While he continues to remain under medical care, the positive signs of recovery have given well-wishers hope that the legendary writer will soon regain full strength.
