Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday (May 3, 2025) said it is the responsibility of all people to safeguard the Constitution and fundamental rights mentioned in the statute to ensure social justice for all. He was speaking after unveiling a 14-feet-high bronze statue of B.R Ambedkar at Yelahanka in Bengaluru.
The Chief Minister said Ambedkar understood the caste system in society and championed the reservation system for the upliftment of Dalits. Ambedkar realised that the true equality in society would be possible only by securing socio-economic freedoms, the Chief Minister said.
Both 12th-century social reformer Basavanna and Ambedkar fought for social equality to eliminate social evils such as the caste system and untouchability. The government policies have been formulated based on the principles advocated by social reformers, he said.
