A senior official of the Karnataka Social Welfare Department has been booked in connection with the death of another official of the same department in Tumkuru district.
Mallikarjunaiah GE, Assistant Director in the Social Welfare Department, was found dead at his office in Tumkuru on Saturday. His death followed allegations of harassment he made against Joint Director Krishnappa in a recorded video.
In the video, Mallikarjunaiah blamed Krishnappa for his decision to end his life. “I am unable to support my mother, wife and children. Krishnappa is a troublemaker. However, my family members need not seek revenge. He will be punished by God and by the law,” he said.
The police have booked Krishnappa under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment of suicide.
As per police officials, Mallikarjunaiah, who was due to retire in March, had been facing an enquiry following a report published in a local newspaper. The police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Department is yet to issue an official statement regarding the case.
