Days after a video showing a former underworld don’s son performing late-night stunts on a Lamborghini in Bengaluru went viral, there is a fresh twist in the case. The lawyer representing Ricky Rai, the son of late underworld don Muthappa Rai, on Wednesday denied that his client was driving the car in the viral video.
The incident is believed to have taken place between 2 am and 3 am on Sunday. The viral footage of the incident showed the luxury car executing high-speed turns and repeated drifts at the Anil Kumble Circle, allegedly putting public safety at risk. Some occupants were also seen partially standing out of the sunroof, shouting as the car circled the area.
“Firstly, there was no nuisance. There were no people on the road. Many claimed Ricky Rai was driving. But he wasn’t driving. The driver was. So, I request you all not to say that Ricky was driving,” said Advocate Narayan Swamy, Rai’s lawyer. He, however, did not deny that Rai was in the car.
Swamy argued that the car was not drifting but skidding after the driver applied brakes on the recently-built road, adding that the driver immediately regained control of the car.
Following the incident, the Bengaluru traffic police seized the luxury sports car and summoned Rai to appear for questioning after the vehicle was traced to his residence.
An FIR was also registered against the car’s owner under sections related to rash and negligent driving and endangering human life.
