Canadian rapper and singer Mark Lee recently announced his departure from SM Entertainment and all NCT activities, including NCT 127 and NCT DREAM, effective from 8th April, 2026. This news has left the fans shaken and created a turning point in the present global K-pop world.
SM Entertainment released an official statement on April 3, 2026, stating, “After a long period of in-depth discussions with Mark regarding the direction of his future activities and following adequate conversations between both parties, we came to a mutual agreement to conclude his exclusive contract as of April 8. Accordingly, Mark will end all NCT activities, including NCT 127 and NCT DREAM.
Since debuting in 2016 as part of NCT, Mark has demonstrated outstanding abilities not only in group promotions but also as a solo artist, showing remarkable activities over the past 10 years. We would like to convey our gratitude for the valuable time we have shared together, and we sincerely cheer on Mark as he leaves the team and begins a new leap forward.”
Marks Handwritten letter to his fans :
Mark also took to social media and penned a heartfelt handwritten letter for his fans, reminiscing about his time in the band. In his letter, he acknowledged the fact that even though the news might be sudden, it has been quite a long time since he decided to pursue his creative aspirations, including his desire to explore music and artistry on his own terms.
Mark’s journey with NCT :
Born on August 2, 1999, in Toronto, Canada, Mark Lee first debuted with NCT in the year 2016, and rapidly became one of the most popular and cherished members of the band. Mark’s career with SM Entertainment spanned multiple NCT units, including NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT DREAM, as well as the high-profile supergroup SuperM. He made his debut with the album The Firstfruit in April 2025, which portrayed his unique individuality beyond group work.

Future of NCT after his departure :
Following his departure, the agency confirmed that NCT 127 will continue as a seven-member group: Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, and Haechan. While NCT Dream will move forward with six members: Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung.
