Bengaluru Traffic Police have proposed a new technology to build mechanised Multi Level Car Parking (MLCP) facilities where cars are vertically stacked using hydraulic lift systems. These are nine-storey metallic structures that can be set up in a small space, with no need for a concrete building, which makes them both cheaper and efficient in less space.

“The technology has been implemented in Hyderabad and is working well. Car owners can leave their cars at a bay area, which will be stacked up using a rotational pulley and lift, and later brought down similarly. It takes less space as well,” said Karthik Reddy, Joint Commissioner (Traffic), Bengaluru.

BTP has identified 66 locations, mostly near metro stations and in busy commercial hubs where land is available to put up these MLCPs, and submitted a proposal to the GBA. This follows a recent meeting over the parking crisis in Bengaluru and directions issued to BTP and civic officials to come up with solutions for the same.
