A four-year-old boy suffered severe burn injuries after his grandmother allegedly poured boiling water on him when he tried to splash coloured water on her as part of Holi celebrations in Maharashtra’s Nagpur, police said.
CCTV footage showed the boy trying to play by splashing water on the woman, identified as Sindhu Thackeray, who was carrying a bucket of hot water. Angered by the child’s actions, she allegedly poured the entire bucket over him. The video showed the child writhing in pain.
Another woman standing nearby was seen pouring normal water on the boy in an attempt to cool him down, but he suffered 45 per cent burns below his waist.
The visuals have gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and calls for action against the woman.
The child has been admitted to a hospital, and police have initiated the process of registering an offence against the woman, news agency PTI reported.
