A leopard has been spotted yet again in Pune city; this time in the Pashan and Sutarwadi areas early on Friday. CCTV cameras in these locations have captured footage of the wild cat, which has since gone viral.
Mangesh Tate, Assistant Conservator of Forest, confirmed the leopard sighting. “It is true. Sighting (of leopard) is there…. Surveillance is going on,” said Tate.
One piece of CCTV footage shows the leopard walking around the cars parked in a lane at 4.12 am, while another shows it jumping over a gate and a compound wall of a building.
Forest department and experts from ResQ Charitable Trust are searching for the leopard in the Pashan area. Trap cages have been set up at certain locations. Forest officers have appealed to the citizens to remain calm and avoid rumours. They have also issued a warning against the circulation of fake AI-generated leopard images that could cause unnecessary fear among residents.

Earlier this week, the leopard was sighted in the Bavdhan area of Pune on the night between Sunday and Monday along Pashan NDA Road.
The area where the leopard was spotted is frequented by people for morning and evening walks, said an officer.
Last month, two separate teams of the Forest Department, along with wildlife rescue experts, were deployed in the Pune airport area and in Aundh following leopard sightings — on November 19 within Pune Airport premises and on November 23 in RBI Colony and Sindh Society in Aundh.
Another leopard sighting occurred on the Pune airport premises on November 25. Since then no fresh sightings have been reported in the Aundh area and at Pune Airport.
