A protest by labour unions demanding higher wages turned violent in Noida on Monday, with factory workers torching vehicles, clashing with police and causing massive traffic disruptions that left hundreds of office-goers stranded. Protesters vandalised property, hurled stones at security personnel and set multiple vehicles on fire as the situation spiralled. Authorities rushed in additional police forces to regain control and contain the unrest. Officials said large numbers of workers from various industrial units had gathered to press for long-pending salary revisions, raising slogans during the protest before it escalated into violence.
