The show, which is one of the most-watched Indian TV shows, featured Arun Govil as Rama and Dipika Chikhlia as Sita. Lahri felt that Ranbir lacked the innocence Govil portrayed on screen. Speaking to DNA, he said, “Ranbir looks ok, but the innocence is a little less. The patience, calm, and innocence Arun (Govil) had are missing here. But I’m sure he’ll justify the role with his acting.”

Sunil also spoke about people’s perception that Ranbir might not be able to pull off a calm and composed character after his violent performance in Animal. The actor continued, “He looks a little harsh; he suits more for Laxmana or Bharat. For such a role, it’s always better to cast a fresh face. A new actor, with no image or controversy, is always an ideal match.”

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana Part 1 is set to release on Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027.
