A young man died and two others were rushed to the ICU on Saturday evening after a sudden, unexplained chemical leak inside a small industrial structure in Mumbai’s Andheri (East), triggering an emergency response from fire officials and placing the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on standby.

PANIC AT MIDC AS THREE COLLAPSE

The incident was first reported around 4.55 pm from a unit in Bhangarwadi of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Workers inside the structure reportedly collapsed after inhaling fumes from what authorities described as an “unknown chemical.”

The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) launched a search and containment operation as soon as teams reached the spot.

All three affected people were rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital, where doctors confirmed that 20-year-old Ahmad Hussain had been declared “brought dead.” The other two, 28-year-old Naushad Ansari and 17-year-old Saba Shaikh, have been admitted to the ICU and are battling for their lives.

OPERATION CONTINUES

Fire officials are still trying to pinpoint the source and nature of the leak.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the chemical involved, the NDRF has been kept on alert. They are expected to step in if specialised containment or decontamination is required, or if the situation shows signs of escalation.
