The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned raw pet food poses a considerable risk to the public following testing that found products were often contaminated.
Raw pet foods do not undergo heat treatment to eliminate pathogenic bacteria during the production process. There are concerns around the storage and handling of such products in the home and the potential of cross-contamination of foods for human consumption and surfaces within domestic kitchens. Meat in raw pet food comes from animal by-products initially for human use but since reclassified for pet food. Â
