Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah restated the government’s decision not to observe a holiday in the state on Monday for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony. Addressing the media in Tumakuru, Siddaramaiah mentioned that the Muzrai Department would be overseeing special rituals at all state-managed temples during the event. He also announced the inauguration of a new Ram Temple in the Mahadevapura constituency in Bengaluru on January 22.
On January 18, the Associated Management of Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) issued a directive to its affiliated schools, advising against declaring a holiday for students. Instead, they were instructed to live-stream the consecration ceremony.
Ahead of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya, the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, R Ashoka, conveyed his message on X (previously Twitter). He expressed, “I have written a letter to the Chief Minister @siddaramaiah requesting that the state government should declare a general holiday on January 22 to facilitate the celebration of the people of the state in view of the inauguration of the new Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the death of Balarama on January 22.”
Several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Gujarat, have officially announced a public holiday on January 22, 2024. This decision is in recognition of the ‘Pran Pratishta’ ceremony taking place in Ayodhya,
