It seems 2025 is the year when baseball players decided to break previous records and set new ones. From Aaron Judge to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, several players are joining the list of creating records. The latest addition is none other than Riley Greene, the hitter from Detroit Tigers, who has got the whole baseball community talking. What record did he make? We have some details here!
Riley Greene’s recent record-breaking performance
In the last match between the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels, Riley Greene stunned the entire stadium with his bat. He entered the field in the ninth inning to face Angels’ closer Kenley Jansen. While baseball fans and players expected Greene to hit off a few pitches and make some runs, he did the unexpected.
Greene went ahead and hit two home runs, and that too in the ninth inning! While it is rare to see two home runs in a single inning, it is rarer to witness it in the ninth inning, which makes this endeavor more special for Greene.
When asked about what he was thinking while hitting those homers, Greene replied,
“I was just thinking, ‘Win the baseball game.’ That’s about it. That was the only thing on my mind: Let’s win this game.”
Well, it seems his positive manifestation and performance did help the Tigers win against the Angels with a 9-1 victory.
However, it seemed like Greene did not believe in his first home run, which can be seen in how the slugger took off from the box. When asked about it, Riley replied,
“I got it, but it didn’t feel too good. I got out of the box because I needed to get on second or third. The second one felt a lot better.”
Well, the second one did make heads turn as it was a rare sight.
Fans react to Riley Greene’s performance
Fans went gaga over Riley’s performance, and the same can be seen on social media. One user went on to post on X, “He’s my GOAT,” referring to Riley as the greatest of all time. We can’t deny the fact.
Another fan went on to say, “Absolutely wild!” a clear reference to how rare it is to see such innings.
While Riley Greene is on the pedal, fans are expecting to see more such wonders in the upcoming games. Will Greene maintain the streak or fail, remains to be seen.
