South Africa fast-bowler Kagiso Rabada ran through the Indian batting order on Day 1, claiming his maiden Test five-wicket haul against India at the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium in Centurion.
The right-arm pacer picked his 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and his first against India in Centurion. Rabada dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shardul Thakur to claim his maiden five-fer against India in Tests.
Rabada provided South Africa with a dream start, sending India skipper Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion in the fifth over. Rabada dismissed Rohit for the 13th time in international cricket. Rohit was tested with a short delivery that he pulled towards deep fine leg where Nandre Burger took a comfortable catch to dismiss the Indian skipper.
Iyer was the next to fall at Rabada’s hands, as cleaned him up with a terrific delivery that beat the Indian batter all ends up. He then picked the prized wicket of Kohli, forcing him to nick a ball outside off straight in the safe grasp of wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne.
Rabada then bamboozled Ashwin with a peach of a delivery that caught the all-rounder’s gloves, which was easily caught by Wiaan Mulder in third slip. Shardul, who was looking good at 24, became Rabada’s next scalp as Shardul played a Rabada delivery on the up, only to find Dean Elgar in the deep.
