Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin launched a fierce attack on the AIADMK, accusing the party of “shamelessly” supporting the Special Integrated Register (SIR) while every other political party had approached the Supreme Court opposing it.
He said AIADMK had “sold its party to Delhi” and was failing to function as a genuine opposition in the state. According to him, at the current rate, the AIADMK “can’t even become an enemy party.”
Stalin alleged that the Union Government is using the Election Commission as a tool, similar to how it uses central agencies like the ED and IT. He said the EC had forced citizens into a situation where people were being made to prove their citizenship and risk losing their voting rights, adding that “a situation has risen where the voter rights of people are being snatched.”
He accused the Centre of using investigative agencies to create disturbances in various states and claimed that the Election Commission was now being used to create similar conditions in Tamil Nadu.
Expressing strong concern about the SIR enumeration process, Stalin said the form issued for voter enrolment was extremely confusing.
“When I saw that form, there was a lot of confusion and my head was spinning by reading it,” he said. He pointed out that only ten days were left for completion of the process and that people across Tamil Nadu were raising serious concerns about the complexity of the form and the limited time available to respond.
