Following the arrest of Dr. Shaheen in a Faridabad terror module case, Kanpur police have detained nine individuals. Ashutosh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police, stated that Kanpur is a sensitive area with known over-ground sympathizers and sleeper modules. The investigation is running parallel to the ATS probe and is focusing on sensitive localities like Chamanganj, Bajaria, and Bekanganj. Kumar noted, ‘it is possible that a linkage might be found’ between general criminals and those involved in communal cases. A key focus of the investigation is Dr. Shaheen’s history of foreign travel, with Kumar calling the purpose of these visits a ‘prime concern’. She was a lecturer at GSVM Medical College until 2013 and was formally dismissed in 2021.
