Tucked away in a space once occupied by a very old cafe in the Sentier, Paris’s former garment district, this lively new restaurant is the brainchild of American-in-Paris Carrie Solomon, replete with white-painted beams, a vintage 1960s tile floor, painted Scandinavian modern furniture, a wide eat-at counter, and a butter-colored awning fluttering over a few sidewalk tables. Solomon, a native of Traverse City, Michigan, has lived in Paris for twenty-three years, first as an au pair to a French family, and then as a cook, cookbook author, caterer, food stylist, magazine columnist for Elle a Table, and a chef, most recently at Aube, a casual modern bistro in the 11th Arrondissement. So she knew exactly what she wanted to do in her first restaurant, “Seduce the French with the big bold flavors, prominent textures, hot sauces, and pickles of modern American cooking.” Think dishes like cioppino with langoustines and fermented tomatoes, deviled eggs, pancakes with fig-leaf flavored syrup, Caesar salad with seasonal greens, and more from a repertory she describes as “Californian-Mediterranean.”

Vibe check: An instant hit with cosmopolitan Paris creatives: Find it full of artists, website designers, chefs, fashion stylists, and other chic Parisians.
